Body camera and dash cam footage released by police shows an officer in a cruiser approaching the suspect as he jogged away, instructing him to stop and show his hands. Instead, he reportedly continued to run away, approaching another officer. As the other officer approached him, the suspect drew a weapon from his waistband, firing a shot at Officer Clayton Lewis. Both officers then returned fire.

Lewis sustained a graze wound to his left leg during the incident and was treated at a hospital and released. No other officers were injured.

The suspect was wanted in connection with a May 11 shooting at the Nashville Rescue Mission, where he allegedly shot an employee multiple times.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office will lead the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
