The Chicago White Sox have landed on the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms’ growing “Don’t Feed the Gun Prohibitionists” list after publicly supporting Everytown for Gun Safety and other gun control groups.
The move comes after the White Sox posted a message on X recognizing Gun Violence Awareness Day and highlighting support for Everytown and similar organizations.
That didn’t sit well with CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.
The White Sox just struck out with a lot of fans, judging from the reaction we’re seeing on social media,” Gottlieb said Monday. “We’re adding the team to our list of organizations which no longer deserve the support of gun owners in Illinois, or anywhere else.”
The CCRKBA list currently includes roughly 200 businesses and corporate leaders the organization believes support efforts to restrict Second Amendment rights.
“When we started this project, we were sometimes surprised, and in some cases disappointed, at some of the businesses we placed on the list,” Gottlieb said. We discovered several brand name businesses and corporate leaders who evidently have a quiet agenda to limit gun rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment.”
According to Gottlieb, the purpose of the list isn’t to pressure companies through government action but to provide consumers with information and let them decide where to spend their money.
Businesses and professional sports teams, and the people who own them, can support whatever kind of philosophy they want,” he said. “And gun-owning consumers and fans can likewise not spend any money with those entities. Let the marketplace decide.”
Gottlieb noted that America’s more than 100 million gun owners represent a sizeable consumer bloc capable of making their voices heard through their wallets.
He also couldn’t resist a few baseball-themed digs.
“Reaction on X from sports fans already indicate the White Sox dropped the ball on this one,” Gottlieb said.
Then he added one more.
“The White Sox just threw a spitball at their gun-owning fans,” he remarked. “So far as we’re concerned, they’re swinging with cork bats.”
Will you still support the White Sox after this post on X.com?
