I wrapped up Show 2026 at the Savage booth with a closer look at the Savage AC30 BOB suppressor. AC30 BOB stands for “Back Over Barrel,” and the name describes exactly how this suppressor approaches length reduction for suppressed hunting rifles.

Savage AC30 BOB
MSRP is $1,100.

The Savage AC30 BOB uses an over-barrel design to minimize added length. While the suppressor measures 8 inches overall, it only adds 4 inches to the rifle. Roughly half of the suppressor extends rearward over the barrel instead of forward past the muzzle.

The AC30 BOB attaches directly to a 5/8×24 threaded barrel.

This layout targets shorter barrel applications where overall length matters. The threaded section sits roughly mid-suppressor, allowing the rear sleeve to slide over the barrel. According to Savage, the AC30 BOB will clear barrels up to approximately 0.9 inches in diameter, covering most of the common hunting rifle barrel profiles.

The AC30 BOB uses an all-aluminum body paired with a titanium threaded insert. That insert prevents steel-on-aluminum thread contact, which helps manage wear over time. The suppressor is user-serviceable, with the front section unthreading to access the internal monolithic baffles.

The over-barrel portion increases the volume of the first baffle chamber, making each subsequent chamber more efficient.

Savage named volume as the key design driver. The AC30 BOB is slightly wider than the standard AC30. That additional internal volume results in approximately a half-decibel reduction compared to Savage’s 7-inch AC30 suppressor.

The company also noted the sound signature avoids the sharp, high-pitched tone often associated with shorter suppressors. Savage described the shooting experience as smooth and controlled, with exceptional performance for a compact suppressor.

The construction is simple and lightweight.

Flash reduction has not been tested, but I suspect the construction surrounding where the bullet exits the suppressor will help to mitigate flash, as it looks similar to dedicated flash-hiding end caps.

The Savage AC30 BOB weighs 13.7 ounces. It is rated for .30-caliber rounds up to .300 Winchester Magnum. MSRP is listed at $1,100. Savage confirmed the suppressor is currently shipping.

For shooters prioritizing minimal overall length without giving up suppressor volume, the AC30 BOB takes a clear, purpose-built approach.
