WASHINGTON – A former U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant and trained sharpshooter has been arrested on federal charges for allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump, CBS News reported.

Peter Stinson, who served 33 years in the Coast Guard and also worked as a FEMA instructor, is accused of making repeated online threats between 2020 and 2025. According to a 19-page FBI affidavit, Stinson posted about using weapons and poison against Trump and offered to assist in a “support capacity” or fund a “contract hit.”
Following the 2024 attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, Stinson allegedly wrote online, “Just three inches and today would be a different day,” and criticized the shooter’s aim. In early June, prosecutors said he continued making threatening posts, including one that read, “When he dies, the party is going to be yuge.”
Stinson, who reportedly identified himself as affiliated with ANTIFA, is charged with threatening the president. A federal judge in Virginia ordered him detained pending further hearings.
If convicted, Stinson could face up to five years in prison.
