ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released video showing an officer-involved shooting of an armed man who beat a deputy, Click Orlando reported.

According to the sheriff’s office, the June 7 incident began when a 24-year-old man emerged from behind a gas station, prompting a deputy to ask what he was doing. Surveillance footage released by investigators shows the man approaching the deputy before grabbing a bag from the ground and attempting to flee. The deputy intervened, leading to a struggle.

During the encounter, the man struck the deputy multiple times while resisting arrest, according to the sheriff’s office. Video shows the man being flipped to the ground, causing a firearm to fall from his hand. Investigators said a second firearm was also thrown during the scuffle.
The suspect then broke free, forced the deputy to the ground and continued to punch him in the head at least 10 times, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect then retrieved both firearms and threw them over a fence.
As the man moved to dispose of the second weapon, the deputy fired his service weapon, striking the individual and bringing him to the ground.
Both the deputy and the suspect were taken to a hospital. The deputy was later released, and the suspect was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and carrying concealed weapons as a convicted felon.
