CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — A school resource officer has died following a cardiac event that occurred after a long shift, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Marcial Rodriguez died when he returned home from a 15-hour shift at Crystal River High School on Oct. 24. He had coordinated a response to a student running away from school before managing security for a senior night football game.

Rodriguez had served with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office for more than 25 years, according to the page. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
