Here’s What Happened at GOA This Week!

At GOA, we’ve been hard at work fighting for your Second Amendment rights, here’s what we did…

We at Gun Owners of America have been hard at work fighting for your rights this week.

From winning a major victory in Virginia against anti-gun AG Jay Jones, to highlighting our work in the courts defending the 4th Amendment, and working with Congress to question the DOJ about their defense of the National Firearms ActGOA has been busy.

You deserve an update.

GOA, GOF and VCDL won a major victory in our lawsuit against Virginia’s Universal Background Check law.

Recently, VA AG Jay Jones commanded the Virginia State Police to begin enforcing universal background checks, even though the law was blocked by a statewide injunction last year.

We at GOA sounded the alarm, releasing a joint letter with the Virginia Citizens Defense League, advising law enforcement not to enforce universal background checks.

We warned that enforcing these universal background checks — against a court order — could cost officers qualified immunity and make them personally liable in lawsuits.

The judge agreed, affirming his prior order halting the enforcement of universal background checks.

Now, any state official who tries to enforce this unconstitutional law does so at the risk of being held in contempt of court.

This victory signals to VA’s anti-gun politicians that they are not above the law.

Next up, Rep. Andrew Clyde questioned Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche about the DOJ’s defense of the illegal National Firearms Act registry in GOA’s “One Big Beautiful Lawsuit.”

Rep. Clyde brought up the fact that the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 specifically prohibits the Federal Government from maintaining any registry of guns and gun owners.

And, since the National Firearms Act’s registry is a registry of tax payments, there is no reason that the federal government should continue to register items that have no tax on them.

Those items being Short Barreled Firearms, AOWs, and Suppressors, thanks to GOA and our allies work last summer on the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” which reduced the NFA tax on these items to $0.

But, the registration requirements remained. That’s why we immediately filed suit once the bill was signed into law.

Our aptly named “One Big Beautiful Lawsuit” will remove the registration requirement on these items, as Congress’s original intent with the NFA was a registration of a tax, not the item itself.

The Department of Justice — furious that they could lose a registry of gun owners — has fought back against us tooth-and-nail.

No registry should exist for any firearms. They are protected by the Second Amendment.

Finally, last but not least, GOA, is working to raise awareness of our extensive legal work protecting the 2nd and 4th Amendments together

In a recent article for Zero Hedge, GOA’s Executive Vice President, John Velleco highlights our legal work defending the 4th Amendment in key cases.

Without robust Fourth Amendment rights, we will never have much of a Second Amendment right.

For that reason, both Gun Owners of America and Gun Owners Foundation have regularly filed amicus briefs to guard against erosion of Fourth Amendment rights.

As more and more states seek to ban more and more classes of previously legal firearms, gun confiscation has become an ever-greater threat.

Historically, the Fourth Amendment’s protections have been greatest when applied to the home, which also happens to be where most guns are kept.

Gun owners must be especially vigilant where Fourth Amendment rights are concerned, because the threat of warrantless police sweeps to take guns from law-abiding citizens is not merely theoretical.

GOA will always lead the fight to defend the “right to keep and bear arms,” as well as those other constitutional rights essential to protect guns, and that most definitely includes the Fourth Amendment.

That’s all for this week, but just know that we’ll be working hard to protect and restore the Second Amendment.
