According to reporting by Fox 5 Washington, a group of four teenagers allegedly tried to carjack a former Marine at gunpoint in Oxon Hill, Maryland, only to find themselves disarmed, restrained, and waiting for police instead.

The incident happened last Wednesday afternoon near Oxon Hill High School. Surveillance footage shows Marine veteran Jacob Bordeaux working on his pickup truck when four teens approached him.

According to Bordeaux, the suspects demanded his truck keys, phone, and other valuables. Video reviewed byFox 5 shows one teen pulling a handgun and pointing it directly at Bordeaux’s head while the others surrounded him.

That’s when the plan started to fall apart.

Bordeaux told Fox 5 that the armed suspect became distracted for a split second. Drawing on his Marine Corps training, Bordeaux seized the opportunity and fought back.

“It took me just one split second,” Bordeaux said.

During the struggle, the gun discharged. Fortunately, nobody was struck by the round. The bullet tore through Bordeaux’s truck, leaving behind a stark reminder of how badly the encounter could have ended.

Fox 5 showed the bullet hole in the vehicle and noted that Bordeaux’s children frequently ride in the truck. His dog, Sky, also regularly sits in the back seat. Had circumstances been slightly different, the outcome could have been tragic.

As the fight continued, Bordeaux’s brother rushed in to help. Together, the two men managed to gain control of the suspects. One teenager reportedly attempted to get into the truck during the chaos, but Bordeaux’s brother intervened.

The pair ultimately held the suspects until officers with the Prince George’s County Police Department arrived and took all four into custody.

Neighborhood residents saidthat the alleged carjackers “picked the wrong person” to target. That may be the understatement of the week.

Bordeaux said he’s simply grateful to be alive and back home with his family.

“I’m feeling grateful,” he said. “I’m still here and safe with my family.”

When asked whether the parents of the juvenile suspects should bear some responsibility, Bordeaux was direct.

“I hold the parents accountable because they’re still minors,” he said. “But I do count they should be more accountable for it because, I mean, they did it. They knew what they were doing.”

The truck wasn’t so lucky. Bordeaux sid that repairs are expected to cost around $2,000.

As for the suspects, they’re now facing the legal consequences of an alleged armed robbery attempt that went spectacularly off script.

It’s also another reminder that criminals never really know who they’re targeting. Sometimes it’s a frightened victim. Sometimes it’s a Marine veteran who spent years training for high-stress encounters.

And sometimes, as these teens reportedly learned, that’s a very expensive mistake.

Self-defense doesn’t end when the threat goes down. That’s when the real battle begins. Lawyers. Prosecutors. Headlines. USCCA Members never fight that battle alone. Find out how.
