Whether you’re an outdoor minimalist, dedicated angler, or survival practitioner, the GoReel River Fishing Kit may be exactly what you need. This compact unit has everything inside to make the big catch, all the while keeping easy-carry and outdoor durability at the forefront. With a kit in hand from Crystal Creek Gear, I cast out both the fishing line and my verdict after using this kit in the vast Florida waterways.

Exploring this kit’s contents for the first time was like experiencing Russian nesting dolls. When you open one doll, you find another. This kit’s unique design mirrored that to a degree.

I first twisted off the kit’s cover to reveal the reel, complete with 60 feet of braided line. At that point, I was questioning where everything else was. However, from there I twisted and lifted the white plastic cap to expose the mini tackle kit’s contents. This held soft, rubber worms, lures, and even a lifelike crayfish. Jig heads and floats rounded out the assortment.

Finally, I found the hooks in a slide compartment within the white plastic inner lid. The compartment was secure and practical, so no hooks could be lost as you travel. The tackle in this river kit is geared towards trout fishing. However, in a pinch, you can adapt to your own needs.

On the surface, the kit does its job. However, as you dig deeper, you’ll notice some subtle, blink-and-you-miss-it features.

First, the reel itself is pre-loaded with sixty feet of braided line, which makes it highly convenient for you. Second, the outer casing is made from ABS plastic. This is ultra-durable and can resist nature’s brutal elements. Third, the color pattern is intentional, offering a light-colored, high-contrast interior. This allows you to see better at dawn or dusk when the sun’s light is minimal.

Finally, all sections and compartments “lock” firmly in place. Rolling around in your vehicle or when dropped will have no effect on the internal components. They will remain organized and separated, no matter how the GoReel Kit is positioned or jolted about.

The GoReel is more than just throwing the line and winding it back onto the unit. The days of using a stick or aluminum can as your reel are long past. With the GoReel, you have much more control and precision with both the casting and the winding back of your line.

I positioned my index finger into the center hole and my middle finger into the hole next to it. My thumb pressed against the line, which held it in place until I was ready to cast. With my free hand, I tossed the line into the water. It released from the GoReel smoothly and without any resistance. The GoReel rotated around my index finger when I needed to pull out more line.

Respooling was a cinch and wound without any knotting. Nearly flawless is the only way to describe the GoReel’s casting abilities.

To anyone not in the know about the GoReel Fishing Kit, they may wonder how it can have everything you need to catch a fish and still fit inside your pocket. Well, the answer is simple. It’s all in its ingenious design. As mentioned, the layered system allows interlocking stacking that conserves space, while keeping all your items firmly in place.

Additionally, the outer shell of ABS material is super durable. This means you don’t have to worry about covering it or moving it when the weather changes for the worse. I slipped it easily inside my shorts’ front pocket with even some room to spare.

The entire unit takes up the space equal to about half a can of soda, to give you a perspective on its size. Overall, carrying the kit or storing it won’t be a problem whatsoever.

The question isn’t why you should get this item. But rather, why wouldn’t you secure this for your next outdoor adventure?

When it comes to positives for the kit, they are numerous. From durability to usefulness, to ease-of-use and its compact size, it’s a win across the board. As for the negatives, they were few and far between, and that’s always a good thing.

I would say, even if the cost went up a few more dollars (the kit’s cost is $45.00), I would have liked a bit more tackle in the kit. It definitely has the space. More hooks, lures, and perhaps a mini blade would round out the kit well. However, the GoReel Fishing Kit, with its advertised contents, is spectacular on many fronts. Once in your hands, you may just ditch your traditional fishing rod more times than you’d care to admit.
