NEW YORK — NYPD cops shot a man to death after he tried to get inside a Brooklyn precinct stationhouse early Sunday and slashed an officer in the face for stopping him, police said.
The slasher tried to enter the 73rd Precinct stationhouse at East New York Ave. and Thomas S. Boyland St . in Brownsville through a locked door in the front vestibule about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, then circled around the building and tried to get in through a backdoor, police said.

When a uniformed officer stopped him and told him he needed to go around front if he wanted help, he whipped out a 14-inch butcher knife and attacked her, police said.
“He slashed her in the face, but then she was able to fight him off,” NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said Sunday.
The slasher ran and an officer tried to subdue him with a Taser, but the shock wasn’t effective, Rivera said, adding that the knife attack and the Taser use were both caught on NYPD body camera footage.
Officers then chased the man for more than two blocks, to Saratoga Ave. by Eastern Parkway, where the slasher lunged with the knife at one officer, Rivera said. Several officers opened fire, mortally wounding the man, Rivera said. Medics took him to Brookdale University Hospital, but he could not be saved.
Cops recovered the knife in the stationhouse’s rear parking lot. It was not immediately clear if the man had a second knife when he reportedly lunged at officers near Eastern Pkwy.
It’s also not clear if the slashed officer was one of the cops who opened fire. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment and has been discharged.
“Thankfully, she is recovering with good spirits,” Rivera said.
Video posted on the Police Benevolent Association’s Instagram page shows the officer smiling while her fellow officers and hospital staffers clap for her as she’s wheeled to a waiting car.

PBA President Patrick Hendry said the officer, whose name has not been released, is a six-year veteran who comes from a police family — her father is an active-duty detective and her mother is a retired detective.
“Thank God our sister is on the road to recovery, but this was a clear targeted attack on New York City police officers. This individual had no fear when he walked into a police precinct and attacked a uniformed cop — there is no telling what he might have done to innocent New Yorkers out on the street,” Hendry said Sunday.
“Despite being injured, our sister pursued this individual along with her fellow police officers, and they stopped the threat before anyone else was hurt. This is another example of the extraordinary work our police officers are doing in an incredibly dangerous environment.”
