Video: Man flees Chicago police across state lines, fires at officers before fatal OIS

CHICAGO — Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability released body-worn camera footage showing the fatal shooting of a suspect who fired shots at officers after a pursuit, according to FOX 32.

The incident began on May 8 when officers responded to a report of a person with a gun and stopped a man in a vehicle. The individual was wanted in connection with an aggravated battery case.

During the traffic stop, the man refused to exit the vehicle, prompting officers to break the driver’s side window. He then fled, leading police on a pursuit into Hammond, Indiana.

The pursuit ended near Dearborn and Gostlin streets, where the suspect crashed and exited the vehicle. Bodycam video shows officers approaching him in a nearby field, where authorities say the suspect produced a firearm and shot at police.

Two officers returned fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital, where he died.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. The two officers involved were hospitalized for observation and reported to be in good condition.
