Walking the floor at NRAAM 2026, every now and then you run into something that makes you stop and go—wait… what exactly is this supposed to be?

That’s pretty much the reaction to the new Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker .308 Pistol.

Is it a pistol? Technically, yes. Does it feel like one? Not really.

Springfield Armory’s HeatSeeker Pistol. MSRP is $1,999.

This thing is basically a bolt-action .308 stuffed into a compact, modular chassis, and it definitely leans more “mini precision rifle” than anything you’d associate with a traditional handgun.

At the core, you’ve got Springfield’s proven Model 2020 action: dual locking lugs, smooth cycling, and paired with a TriggerTech trigger that’s adjustable down into that crisp 2.5–5 lb range. It’s all housed inside a Sharps Bros Heatseeker chassis, which is machined from a single block of aluminum and loaded up with M-LOK for whatever accessories you feel like hanging off it.

The big headline here is the size.

You’re looking at a 12-inch barrel and an overall length of just over 22 inches, which makes it ridiculously compact for a .308 platform. It weighs in around 6 pounds, so it’s not exactly featherlight, but for what it is, it’s surprisingly manageable.

Out back, there’s a Picatinny rail section, which gives you options. Brace it, leave it as-is, or go the full SBR route if you’re feeling paperwork-friendly. Worth noting: it doesn’t ship with a brace, but it’s clearly designed with that flexibility in mind.

Up front, you’ve got 5/8×24 threads and a radial brake, so running a suppressor is definitely part of the equation here. Feeding comes from AICS-pattern mags, and right now it’s chambered in .308 only.

On the floor, the biggest takeaway was how… normal it feels to run, despite how weird it sounds on paper. It shoulders naturally, and the ergonomics are familiar thanks to the AR-style grip.

Pretty cool! True is loving this one!

But yeah, there’s still that question. What category does this even fall into?

It’s not something you’re concealing. It’s not exactly a truck gun in the traditional sense. And while it absolutely has precision chops, it’s also not trying to replace a full-size rifle. It kind of just lives in its own lane.

It’s compact, modular, a little unconventional, and very much a “build it how you want it” platform. MSRP is $1,999.
