The Mason County Sheriff’s deputy cleared a traffic stop he was in the process of completing and reached speeds of up to 100 mph to stop the suspected DUI driver

MASON COUNTY, Wash. — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage showing a deputy racing to stop a wrong-way driver, preventing a possible catastrophic collision.

The Nov. 23 incident unfolded after a passing driver alerted a deputy who was conducting a traffic stop to a wrong-way driver, according to the release.

The deputy cleared the initial stop before racing to catch up with the wrong-way driver. He reached speeds of up to 100 mph.

After passing the driver, the deputy was able to position his cruiser to block the driver. The suspect slowed and came to a stop before striking anything, dash camera video shows.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to the release.
