HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 53-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly ramming multiple vehicles and leading authorities on a pursuit lasting more than an hour across northeast Harris County, KTRK reported.

The pursuit began just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 5 after deputies received a report of a hit-and-run involving a truck described by authorities as “military-style,” according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled.

The pursuit lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes and ended after spike strips disabled the vehicle’s tires. Deputies also fired shots during the pursuit, but the driver did not stop, according to the report.
Once the truck came to a halt, SWAT officers responded and issued repeated commands for the driver to exit the vehicle. When he failed to comply, deputies deployed tear gas and took the man into custody. No injuries were reported.
Chief Deputy Tommy Diaz said investigators estimate the suspect struck about 10 vehicles before the pursuit began. A motive has not been determined, according to the report.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the suspect was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of evading arrest.
Authorities said there was no initial indication the suspect fired shots at deputies, though the sheriff later said it was possible shots may have been fired. The incident remains under investigation.
