PRICEVILLE, Ala. — The Priceville City Council voted unanimously to reinstate Officer Garry Chapman, who was previously terminated following a pursuit in September, WAFF reported.

The decision comes with conditions, including a 10-day unpaid suspension, probationary status and mandatory retraining with a supervisor, according to the report.

Chapman was fired after a Sept. 6 pursuit that ended in a fatal crash in Hartselle. Authorities said the pursuit began on Interstate 65 and quickly moved to local roads, concluding at the intersection of Main Street and Highway 31, where the suspect collided with another vehicle carrying several teenagers. One passenger, Tristan Hollis, was killed.
Chapman, speaking after the council’s decision, defended his actions during the pursuit.
“Me appealing my termination was not a discount to that,” Chapman told WAFF. “It was merely standing up for what’s right and for myself, because what I did I truly believe I was in the right.”
His father, Duane “Dog” Chapman, known for the television series “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” attended the hearing in support.
“I’m very proud of Garry and I’m proud of the decision that they made,” he said.
