ALBANY, N.Y. — NYSP Superintendent Steven G. James has announced the line-of-duty death of retired New York State Police Sergeant Frederick W. Scheidt Jr., 67, who died on August 13, 2025, from an illness connected to his service at the World Trade Center site following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Scheidt, who retired on October 14, 2009, after 30 years of service, was last assigned to Troop G – SP Saratoga. His passing is recognized as a line-of-duty death, highlighting the enduring health consequences faced by 9/11 responders.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon, and son, Brandon.

Superintendent James called Scheidt’s death “a solemn reminder of the lasting toll borne by those who responded selflessly in the aftermath of that tragic day.”
