The pursuit began June 21 after the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a reckless driver. Deputies and a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper spotted the suspect speeding on State Highway 23 before he entered northbound I-41 and refused to stop.

According to the sheriff’s office, the pursuit covered about five miles. While fleeing, the suspect struck a guardrail and drove erratically. A deputy’s attempt to execute a PIT maneuver failed, and the suspect then tried to enter the southbound lanes of I-41 while still heading north.

Officers attempted to box in the vehicle, but the suspect rammed a trooper’s squad car and evaded the maneuver. A deputy then used his patrol vehicle to push the suspect’s car into a ditch and pin it against a fence, ending the pursuit.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation and later booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail.

The suspect is charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, fleeing an officer, and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer. No injuries were reported.
