Right out of the gate, any pack that houses your weapon needs to be durable enough to get the job done. The COVRT’s outer body is constructed of 500D/840D nylon with reinforced seams. Each buckle connection was solidly attached without noticeable fraying or loose stitches.

The pack featured easy-to-grab zippers, which are always welcome, as they are highly accessible; a much-needed feature when you’re always on the go. I tugged on the material, and it held up well. I also repeatedly opened and closed all compartments, and they moved smoothly, without snags or resistance.

This pack exuded toughness and had no notable flaws or imperfections in its overall construction. Padded shoulder straps and twin padded back panels added both comfort and durability for long-term wear.

What’s great about the 5.11 COVRT 24 Backpack 41L is its ability to appear like a traditional college or city backpack, yet house so many hidden features.

First, its voluminous main compartment can hold either one big item or several small pieces of gear. Its dual access zippers allow a quick opening, no matter how your pack is positioned. A mesh, see-through pocket is positioned conveniently inside this compartment. On the backside is a compartment with MOLLE attachments, as well as Velcro-style loop strips for multiple carry options.

An integrated top-positioned pouch is ideal for a cellphone or sunglasses, while twin bottle holders are laterally positioned on the pack. Lastly, a blink-and-you-miss it, discreet sleeve along the back of the unit can house a laptop or water bladder.

I overlooked one compartment during my examination of the COVRT 24 pack, and that was the concealed carry pocket. If I missed it, then others might too, and that’s a very good thing.

A right-side-positioned, easy-access CCW pocket allows quick access to your firearm if needed. A beefy, hook-and-loop strap inside keeps your weapon secure during your daily activities. This positioning of the strap is also fully adjustable, as it is secured on a large square section of hook-and-loop material.

Like most anything else, if something doesn’t fit or feel right, odds are you won’t wear it regularly. The first thing I noticed as soon as I threw this pack over my shoulders was its padded straps and back panels. They hugged my upper back and shoulders without feeling tight and without pulling my upper body uncomfortably back. The convenient sternum strap only added to the pack’s stability.

Additionally, the grab-handle, which is not always a key feature on a backpack, was also heavily padded. This allowed me a hearty grip on the pack as I walked. Many times, the handle is just a thin strap, and under a heavy-weighted pack, it can actually hurt your hand to hold it. This wasn’t the case with the 5.11 COVRT 24 Backpack 41L backpack.

After thoroughly examining, wearing, and using the 5.11 COVRT 24 Backpack 41L, I was more than convinced that it did what it needed to do. It offered high-volume carry, with the added bonus of discretion and long-term comfort. This pack would not get a second look from passersby on a college campus, when commuting across town, or even when placed in your office cubicle.

Discretion, comfort, and plenty of storage space, that’s the 5.11 COVRT 24 Backpack 41L’s true claim to fame.
