EAST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A driver cleaning his eyeglasses ran a red light and struck an East Lampeter Township police cruiser Monday afternoon, according to police.

The department released dashcam video of the impact, which resulted in minor injuries to the officer and a passenger in the cruiser.

The 10-second video shows the cruiser starting to turn left from the Route 30 exit ramp onto Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township around 4:05 p.m. when a Mercedes-Benz sedan hits the front of the driver’s side of the cruiser. Several vehicles went through the green light ahead of the police cruiser.

The officer was treated at Lancaster General Hospital for a hand injury from the airbag being deployed and released, according to police Chief Stephen Zerbe. The passenger was treated at the hospital for whiplash and released.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was uninjured, police said. Zerbe said the driver was cited for the red light violation.

Police are investigating and ask that anyone with information related to the crash contact them at 717-291-4676.
