BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Wearing only a diaper, a 2-year-old went missing for more than an hour late Saturday, April 5 , before a state police helicopter unit spotted the child from above, officials said.

The crew operating the helicopter, named Trooper 2, located a heat signature in a ditch along I-94 and Airport Road in Blackman Township , near Jackson, state police reported on X, formerly Twitter.

The report stated the helicopter crew searched for 15 minutes before finding the child, which was reported missing about an hour earlier.

The ditch was located in a commercial district in the community, near a Meijer and Olive Garden.

After directing public safety officials on the ground to the location, police found the child “conscious and alert,” state police reported. The 2-year-old did not appear injured but was transported to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for treatment.

Trooper 2 infrared camera footage — from an altitude of about 1,600 feet — that appeared to show the child’s rescue at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday was uploaded to the state police X account.
