CASTAIC, Calif. — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has released body camera footage of an Oct. 11 deputy-involved shooting stemming from a domestic violence incident, KABC reported.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station responded to a 911 call about an argument between a man and woman inside a car, according to the report. Audio from the 911 call contained the sounds of gunshots at two separate times.

As deputies arrived, a man was reportedly in a physical altercation with the woman. When a deputy exited his vehicle, the man appeared to draw a handgun and point it at the deputy, prompting the deputy to fire, according to the sheriff’s department

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. The bodycam footage shows a handgun at the woman’s feet and a child, later identified as the suspect’s child, in the back seat of the car, according to the report.

The child was unharmed. Investigators determined the man had fired twice during the dispute, with one round entering the car where his child was seated.

The man faces charges including assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, child endangerment and other weapons offenses, according to the report. The sheriff’s department recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and a .22 caliber revolver at the scene. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the case.
