During a House Oversight Committee hearing this week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) grilled Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle about the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump.

Greene opened her questioning by reminding Cheatle she was under oath.

“Who was the agent in charge? How long has she been the agent in charge, and what is her Secret Service background?” Greene demanded. Cheatle refused to provide specific names, stating, “I’m not going to provide names of our personnel today.”

Greene pressed on, emphasizing the public’s demand for transparency. Cheatle promised to provide accurate information but remained firm on withholding names.

The committee sought details about the advance report and coordination with other intelligence or law enforcement partners.

Cheatle assured compliance with documentation requests but did not specify when the documents would be provided. Greene expressed skepticism, doubting Cheatle’s commitment to transparency.

The congresswoman highlighted the failure of the Secret Service to prevent the incident, citing specific times and events leading up to the shooting.

Greene questioned how the assailant, identified as Crooks, managed to fly a drone and position himself with a gun without being intercepted.

“Two minutes before the shooting, while President Trump has been allowed to take the stage, people see Crooks laying on his stomach in a sniper position on the roof, and they’re yelling, ‘He has a gun,’ and they are trying to alert law enforcement and Secret Service,” said Greene. “Why was Crooks not shot by the snipers? Why was he allowed to be there?”

Cheatle stated that the individual was neutralized once identified as a threat, but Greene argued this response came too late.

“No, you knew that everyone knew,” exclaimed Greene. “The people there knew that there was a danger. They knew there was a threat to President Trump, and it was allowed to happen. Was there a stand-down order, Miss Cheatle? Was there a conspiracy to kill President Trump?”

“Absolutely not,” replied Cheatle.

Greene concluded by questioning Cheatle’s ability to lead the Secret Service, suggesting she consider resignation.

Cheatle responded that the investigation was ongoing and did not directly address Greene’s call for her resignation.
