NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released body camera footage following a fatal officer-involved shooting of a man who ran toward officers with a knife, the Tennessean reported.

Three officers responded to an apartment complex on June 27 when a man called 911 to report his younger brother had held a knife to his throat and cut him, according to the report.

The victim told dispatchers that the suspect cut him while attempting to stab him at the complex. He said the suspect was “huffing” something and having a manic episode before he was able to take a substance from the suspect and hide.

After the officers found the victim, who had fled the apartment and run down a nearby hill, they confronted the suspect in a dark breezeway, video shows. The suspect suddenly climbed down a flight of stairs and came at the officers with a large knife in hand.

The suspect ignored repeated commands from officers to stop. He was within feet of them when one of the officers fired his gun.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother was treated for non-life-threatening wounds and released from a local hospital by 8 a.m., according to the report.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry into the shooting. The findings will be reviewed by MNPD and the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office, according to the report.
