TAMPA, Fla. — Two Tampa Police Department officers pinned badges on their children during the department’s latest induction ceremony, FOX 13 reported.
TPD Officer Thomas Farrell has served in the department for 20 years, according to the report. His son, Riley Farrel, joined the force on Nov. 28, along with 28 other recruits.
“Growing up, I saw him and what the profession did for our family and the difference he made in the community,” Riley told FOX 13.
TPD Officer Jim Dausch also welcomed his daughter, Calyn Dausch, to the force.
“I heard his stories growing up and saw how much impact it had, and all his friends. I wanted the same thing,” Calyn Dausch told FOX 13.
The Tampa Police Department will soon be adding 30 additional officers to its ranks due to a grant from the United States Department of Justice. The boost will bring the department’s ranks to over 1,000 officers.
“When police officers want to send their kids to the police department, that speaks volumes, especially the Tampa Police Department,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We talked about it in the ceremony how some departments see a shortage of police officers. We’re fortunate not to be in that predicament.”
