The future is now old man!

Holosun came out swinging at SHOT Show 2023 with the release of a plethora of new optics. These range from pistol and rifle red dots to new thermal and night vision options.

Holosun is paying attention to what the market is asking for, and even delivering products the public hasn’t even thought of yet.

From SHOT Show 2023, I think their new hybrid line of Thermal and Night optics is the most innovative product to be unveiled. They have been pushing the envelope hard, and I am quite excited to briefly write about each of these new products.

DRS Thermal

Holosun DRS-TH on the left and the DRS-TH Pro on the right (it uses a bigger lens and sensor).

Personally, the all-new Holosun DRS-TH (Digital Reflex Sight-Thermal) is the most exciting product I’ve seen at SHOT Show. It’s revolutionary and adds thermal capability to a pretty typical red dot.

The main housing is very similar to the enclosed Holosun AEMS red dot system that has been out for a while, but adds a thermal sensor on top of the glass, and adds a battery compartment as part of the mounting system.

The coolest part about this is the way it works. Day or night, the red dot works just the same as all other red dots. However, when the thermal is turned on, it is overlayed into the glass to use in conjunction with the existing reticle.

While during the day it can be hard to see the overlayed image, Holosun included a solid front lens cover that entirely blocks the front of the glass. When this is flipped up, the dark background makes it easier to see the overlayed image during the day.

Due to the way red dots work and the advantage of shooting with two eyes open, even with the front lens covered, the eye looking through the optic will superimpose the image onto the target, while the opposite eye can see downrange. However, at night, the cover should not be needed and the system will be more seamless.

Two options are going to be available. The DRS-TH has an MSRP of $1.600 and uses a 256xx192 thermal sensor, and the DRS-TH Pro has an MSRP of $2,300 and uses a 384×288 thermal sensor. Both of these options are expected to be available sometime around Q3 of 2023.

DRS Night Vision

The Holosun DRS-NV. The middle lens is the NV camera, and the right lens is for the IR illuminator.
Looking through the Holosun DRS-NV with the cover up and the night vision turned on. If it would have been dark outside, this image is what it would have looked like with the front cover down.

Working almost identically to the DRS Thermal, Holosun also unveiled a night vision option as well called the DRS-NV (Digital Reflex Sight-Night Vision). The only real difference is that the night vision variant uses a digital night vision camera and a built-in IR illuminator.

The DRS-NV is anticipated to be available around Q3 of this year and will have an MSRP of around $1000.

SCS

The lineup of new Holosun SCS red dots.

While Holosun has already released an SCS or Solar Charging Sight before this year, they added more options for directly mounting to optic cuts without the use of an adaptor plate.

New for 2023, they added SCS options for the Walther PDP 2.0, Glock MOS, HK VP9, and Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0. These low-profile red dots allow users to co-witness with the existing factory iron sights.

Many red dots on the market sit too high and end up blocking the rear sight so this is a great improvement to see. The SCS lineup uses multi-directional light sensors to automatically adjust brightness.

Also, Holosun states that the SCS can “potentially operate indefinitely using an internal rechargeable 20,000-hour battery” which means that the user will never need to change batties again. These variants of the SCS should be shipping by Q2 with an MSRP of $350.

TECH & FEATURES

  • Up to 20,000 Hour Power Reserve
  • Solar Charging Internal Battery
  • Multi-Sensor Auto Brightness
  • Brightness Intensity Override System
  • Multiple Reticle System™ (MRS): 32 MOA Circle & 2 MOA Dot; 2 MOA Dot; 32 MOA Circle

  • 1 MOA Windage & Elevation Adjustment Per Click
  • Window Size: 0.77 × 0.58 in
  • 7075 T6 Aluminum Housing

SCS-320

The enclosed emitter Holosun SCS-320

Another really cool product that was launched at SHOT Show this year was the SCS-320. This is an enclosed emitter option designed for P320 optic cuts or footprints.

Due to the potential failure of open reflex sights from anything obstructing the emitter, I am happy to see this as an option.

I think the industry is going to continue to move towards closed-emitter red dots, and Holosun is not afraid to push in that direction. The SCS-320 will have an MSRP of $400 and should start shipping by Q2.

  • 20,000-Hour Power Reserve
  • Aspherical Glass Lens with Zero Distortion
  • Solar Charging Internal Battery

507 Comp

Shooting with the Holosun 507 Comp.

Aimed at competition shooting, Holosun released the 507 Comp handgun sight. This optic features a very large window (1.1″x0.87″) for enhanced shooting performance.

I will say, the larger the window, the easier it is to find the dot. Larger windows also increase the field of view around the dot itself which I find quite helpful.

This will be available with a red or green LED as well as with Holsun’s Muli-Reticle System. The 507 Comp will be available around the end of Q2 with an MSRP somewhere between $350-$400.

  • 7075 T6 Aluminum Housing

SCRS

The Holosun SCRS

The SCRS (Solar Charging Rifle Sight) pushes Holosun’s SCS lineup in a new direction. Designed as a compact closed-emitter rifle sight, the SCRS is going to be a solid contender in this space.

It utilizes a 20mm tube that provides ample field of view, features Holosun’s multi-directional light sensors to automatically adjust brightness, and is made with the Holosun 509T footprint.

MSRP is going to max out around $270. These should be shipping around Q2.
