Check this out. The Springfield Prodigy 1911 DS is an Armory entry into the double-stack 1911 world. Chambered in 9mm, the handgun takes Springfield’s 1911 frame and wraps it around a double-stack magazine. Does that make it a Springfield 2011? That depends on your definition of 2011 pistol. Rather than debate arguable semantics, we’ll show ya our video and lay out some weapon specs.

Springfield 9mm Prodigy DS review.

Springfield Prodigy 1911 DS

The Prodigy 1911 DS (Double Stack) is an optics-ready 9mm pistol with a polymer grip module on a forged steel frame. Featuring a match grade bull barrel with an 11° (eleven-degree) crown, the Prodigy DS is available in two lengths: 4.25″ or 5″. There are four initial models to choose from: a 4.25″ barrel version AOS handgun without optic and AOS version equipped with a Hex Dragonfly red dot, and one each of those configurations with a 5″ barrel.

Maybe it’s just easier to show you.

Types of Prodigy pistol
The initial round of 1911 Prodigy DS handguns came in two styles/four models: a 4.25 in. barrel and 5 in. barrel option each of the AOS and a version with the Hex Dragonfly optic.

Sooo…another question. Is a single-stack 2011 still a 2011? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ We dunno. But it’s sure a good-lookin’ way to expend some of your 9mm ammo.

A grip module is usually a distinguishing feature of a 2011 pistol (though not the only one — and they aren’t the only handguns to have one, either).

Double Stack 9mm Magazines

Initially the weapon will have three magazine choices available:
